The Secret to Living a Longer, Healthier Life

What if the key to your healthiest and most impactful life wasn’t hidden in a supplement bottle or an extreme fitness regimen—but instead in your mind, your choices, and your healing journey?
On my show, The Journey of an Awakening Spirit, I had the honor of sitting down with Dr. Ryan Williamson—a neurologist, Navy veteran, and founder of Transcend Health—who’s made it his mission to empower people to take back control of their health and longevity. His story, layered with grief, awakening, personal transformation, and spiritual growth, proves that what we do—and how we think—truly shapes the quality of our life.
Dr. Williamson’s path began in pain. Before he was even 11, he had experienced the deaths of multiple close family members. That trauma led him toward medicine, service, and eventually the military, where he worked with active-duty Marines. But the real transformation came later—when unresolved childhood wounds and marital challenges pushed him into therapy. That’s when the “third awakening,” as he calls it, truly began.
What he discovered along the way is that mental health is the foundation of physical health—and until we heal what’s holding us back emotionally, we can’t fully access our potential.
“Most people don’t realize that 70 to 90% of their health outcomes are in their control,” Dr. Williamson said. “But we’ve been conditioned to believe we’re helpless, or that disease just happens.”
So how do we reclaim our vitality and purpose?
Dr. Williamson’s approach centers around what he calls the “Core Four”: sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress management. But beyond the science, he emphasized something deeper—neuroplasticity, the brain’s incredible ability to rewire itself based on our focus and behavior.
And the simplest tool to start with? Gratitude.
Yes, really. Studies show we have about 70,000 thoughts a day, and 80% of them are negative. That’s our brain’s built-in survival mechanism. But by intentionally practicing gratitude, we can reprogram that wiring. Try this: write down three things you're grateful for every morning. And if you're up for a challenge, go even deeper. Write 25 different things for 10 days straight. As Dr. Williamson shared, “Your brain will fight it at first. But then it clicks—and suddenly, you’re seeing life differently.”
That inner shift creates a ripple effect—better decisions, clearer purpose, stronger relationships. And for Dr. Williamson, that clarity led to launching Transcend Health, writing a book (coming out this September), and opening a membership platform that supports others on their healing journey.
What I found most powerful was how he bridges science and spirit. As someone who has always leaned on Spirit for guidance, it was beautiful to hear a neurologist speak about energy, emotion, and awakening with such openness. He reminded us that healing isn't about being perfect—it’s about being present. It’s about choosing alignment over fear, and progress over paralysis.
Whether you’re feeling stuck in your health, overwhelmed by emotion, or just ready to live with more vitality—know this: you are not broken. You are capable of change. And you are not alone.
